Jenn Budziak, keys and vocals
Once upon a time, there was a little girl who decided she wanted to play the drums. “No way,” her mom said, “not a chance are you doing that.” So the little girl sighed and agreed to take piano lessons. She didn’t much like practicing, but she loved her teacher. And she got pretty good. After high school, she auditioned for music schools and got her degree as a piano major, even though solo performing gave her anxiety and led her to mainline entire bags of M&Ms before going onstage. (No, not the snack packs; these were definitely the bigger bags they call “sharing size.” She did not share.)
So she went to school again, grad school this time, and became a choral conductor—first in churches, then in colleges, and eventually anywhere anyone would let her stand in front of a bunch of singers and help them sing better. Somewhere in there she got married and had 2 kids and discovered she was super-neurodivergent and also probably the worst Little League mom in the history of the suburbs.
It took her way too long to figure out that playing keyboards in a band is much more fun and less anxiety-producing than playing Chopin and Beethoven alone on a stage, but she’s thrilled now to join BPB and make vast amounts of noise without apologizing for it. She also, under her pre-married name Jennifer K. Breedlove, writes murder mysteries. Her first one just came out, but there’s plenty more ideas where that came from. If you tick her off, and then later read one of her books where someone who reminds you of yourself is the first victim, it’s definitely just a coincidence.
She still likes M&Ms.
