BAND STORY ---- PART 2 --
NEW LINE-UP :
Same Sh*tty Bassist
and Ellen Never Left
On Labor Day of 2023, BiPolar Bear Line Up 1 decided that it was time to move on. Sometimes, things just run their course, but Jim and Rob found themselves in the same position that they found themselves in 2018. They wanted to put a band together and had to start from scratch.
The difference here is that Ellen never left. Rob and Jimmy returned to practicing with the Blue Tooth Speaker on Tuesdays, and Ellen showed up (week after week). Ellen called Lisa and invited her back to practice. Jimmy and Rob went on the aps, Band Mix and Find-a-Musician and began inviting folks to come by and play; to see if they fit.
Paul Wilhelm, a Brookfield resident, was the second drummer to try out, and he nearly instantly fit in with the rest of the band. He has a great work ethic and does not mind that Rob and Jim often say very stupid things. He has gotten used to Ellen and the fact that Lisa will roll her eyes constantly at the foolishness at practice. Paul has quite a few really cool experiences from playing in bands, his input is really appreciated.
Meanwhile, Jimmy invited a work colleague to come and jam with the band. Prior to Sebastian coming over, Guitarist Emeritus, Dave "Evad" Gonzalez, would often sit in with the band during try outs or practices. Dave enjoys filling in and practicing here and there, but he has made it clear that he is not ready for a full-time band commitment. Enter the sarcastic and extremely talented Sebastian Marecki. Like other folks who have played in the past, Sebastian can play multiple instruments. Even though he is the lead guitarist, he is the best bass player in the band, and he can hammer out a drum beat and keep time. He also has sung originals in a past life (and band). He has this very dry, biting sense of humor, so pay attention or you might get stung. He has already hung out with Ellen at some open mic night (zoinks!!!).
In late June, Sebastian decided to leave the band and Dave "Evad" Gonzalez, the guitarist Emeritus agreed to come back temporarily to complete the 2024 dates.
So, as of now, the band is a six piece, but it may add another hand if the shoe fits. As of the time of this writing, several things are being explored. Check the show's page for anything upcoming.
Finally, a word about the band name. It has come to our attention that some folks really don't like the name. We have heard that people feel it is insensitive to mental health issues. PLEASE NOTE – in some of our opinions, getting people to talk about things such as mental health, even if it is from a silly band name, is not a bad thing. Stigmas exist because people do not talk about such things. The name is a play on words, really meaning that we play songs all over the place, polar opposites. In the past we have played a 1970's pop hit like "Vehicle" by The Ides of March, followed by Dio's 1984 Metal Anthem, "The Last In Line." The name means we are all over the place, musically.
We are aware some folks may not like it. The bass player has a history of clinical depression and he loves the name. We know that in today's world, someone is always going to be offended, no matter what. That is not the intention. It's a funny name – is the bear bipolar? Or is the bear bi(sexual)?. Is it a Bipolar Bear or a Bi - Polar Bear? We will never ever tell.
See you at the shows, and thanks for waiting!!!!!!
